The Master of Midirection

by bradjackson

Ahhh, Mother Misdirection.  The key to any successful magic performance.

With good misdirection you can accomplish any feat of magic.   Here is one of the finest examples…a classic by Tony Slydini.

If you’ve seen the video montage on pumaskills.com or you own the PUMA Skills Mastery Course you’ll see that I perform this magic trick with a girl in the video.  Although the trick is the same, the performance will vary a little bit when doing it for a girl you’re interested in vs. on stage

Tony Slydini, the magician here is one of the greatest master magician’s of all time and made this routine famous.  This is old video footage of him using misdirection to do an amazing effect will show you how simple magic can be.

Watch this several times, study it.  Note the angles. Nothing Tony does is an accident.  He’s very aware of the spectator’s line of sight the entire time.

I’ve perfromed this trick in crowded bars, clubs and even restaurants.  I usually use bar napkins but have even used cloth table napkins before.  I’m not afraid to toss the napkins clear into the crowd overhead. (I make sure that I don’t hit a bouncer in the head while I’m doing it) but don’t worry about doing this in crowds.

I explain how to use it in this situation in a lot more detail in the mastery course, but no one’s as good as the great Slydini at this.

I just don’t understand how the gentleman from the audience isn’t able to see him toss the napkin??? You would think that he would pickup about 1/2 way thought that he’s actually tossing it with the other hand

Now that was funny – so captivating. No wonder it draws people in (they're curious) and makes you the social centre of the group.

    All the best
