Cigarette Magic Madness!

This is an awesome video. Tho I am not into cigarette magic the sleight of hand that this guy posesses is totally amazing.

Thing is my magic is nowhere near as good as this guy. Yet I still get awesome reactions when doing magic for anybody. It would be amazing to be able to perform like this but I don’t think you have to be anywhere near as good as this guy to have awesome results.

If you pick the correct tricks and make sure you can perform them to a good standard, then boom your off and running. You just need to be competent in what you are doing and perform it with a bit of flair and you will be very successful.

This is an incredible video by an even more amazing magician. The best part about it is that most of the sleights he performs are pretty basic and not hard to do with a good amount of practice at home. I say practice at home because when I figured out the first few tricks I went straight out and tried them, only to screw them up in public because of two reasons. First reason, I bought some cheap fake cigarettes ( from Party City for like $3) which I recommend for practice…but when I tried the tricks with a real cigarette I found them much more difficult to do without showing the ‘turn’ in the trick. The ‘turn’ is where any magician makes an ordinary object do something magic. ( Watch the Prestige with hugh jackman and christian bale for reference to the term.) The second reason, I tried to do every trick in succession and thus made myself out to be an entertainer and not a P.U.M.A. I didn’t leave them hanging on anything to ask me for more.. esp. the times I didn’t screw anything up and they’d always ask me for more. But I didn’t have another cigarette trick to show them. Basically, the first rule of performing, whether for getting girls, or just impressing people, !Always Leave Them Wanting More! That said, thanks for the acknowledgment Brad, but I owe the accolades to Christian, a friend who showed me the video because he wanted help figuring out how to do parts of the routine he couldn’t. If you learn any of these tricks you can take a cigarette (even a burning one) out of a girls hand, impress the hell out of her and hand the cigarette back for her to smoke!

Glad you found the video the post. For starters here is a tutorial on how the first sleight is done with several variations on the the first turn and the prestige (production of the cigarette) and there is also an added palm off that will allow you to do the move as a stand alone effect to get girls’ attention. I think its highly effective in the situation of asking a girl for a cigarette by saying ” have you ever seen a cigarette disappear in three seconds?” … you might get a few different responses depending on the girl, the group she’s in, or the situation you’re asking her ( i.e. at a bar as opposed to a wedding). At this point, depending on the situation, I do a roll-off (aka walk a way on purpose and right come back laugh laugh) or I put the cigarette behind my ear and say thanks and walk away..to come back to her later, but if she’s interested which girls always are I do the move.

As for the 3 second disappearing cigarette, I do the first move, say 1, palm off and say 2, and then pull the cigarette back into the palm off hand and pull it out from behind the hand as he does in the video aka the prestige and say 3. Let me know when you’re ready for the 2nd and following sleights.

I can’t tell you enough how much practicing 10 times the first time you see it, 5 times before you go out, and once when you get where youre going will help the confidence and effectiveness of your effect and affect on the girl your doing the move for…

Great moves to watch for a cigarettes! The best way to practice these moves is with a real cigarette. Push a tooth pick down the center of it thru the tabacoo end. This will keep your practice cigarette free from snapping in half. Alot of those moves will break a cigarette when just starting out. Even a small pencil will work out well too! I recommend the Tarbell course in magic vol.1. It’s a great book for just starting out or the season pro for checking back on master moves for cigs, coins, and cards. About 20 bucks at a magic shop. Look it up on google theres about 12 volumes.
