I prefer not to do full deck tricks but packet tricks like Duplicity and so. My favorites are coins anyway and a VERY good trick is the nickle, dime and penny of Eugene Burger. He’s got it from a Japanese magician. Go check it out.

When I want to do a full deck trick like Osterlind’s BCS, I always make sure that the bartender has a NON Bicycle deck behind his counter.

i think it’s important to know card tricks, but like others have said don’t make it all obvious or geeky that your doing it. it’s all in how the magic is presented; some of the most amazing tricks that i do are with cards and all of them impress girls, they love it. but like brad said magic by itself isn’t going to get you the girl, it’s just an easy way to build rapport and open a set.

On a slightly related note… anyone else ever tenkai palm your credit card so you can produce it from thin air when it’s time to pay the bartender?

I’ve tried it both unsuccessfully and successfully, and I gotta say that it’s all in how you handle it. If I set the frame of “I’m a magician.” and the girls have already accepted that frame and hooked, then I can pull out cards, a rabbit, whatever… I’m off duty, but just entertaining myself by doing what I love at the bar for some new friends of mine.

However, if I bust into a set David Blaine style with “Hey, wanna see something cool?” I’m going to get blown out… HARD.

The type of cards also matters… I love my Black Tiger deck, but whenever I bust that out, they look like magician’s cards… and instantly I get a lot more heat because of it.

Oh, the other problem with my beloved Black Tiger is that the UV reactiveness isn’t as cool as it sounds. After about oh… 3 or 4 seconds out of the box, the edges all turn white, rendering DL’s damn near impossible under a black light.

On the other hand, I don’t wanna just use red bikes, cause that’s boring… I like to be unique. So I just bought a pack of silver bikes and will be field testing this weekend. A friend is coming down from KC and we’re gonna tear it up.

My general thoughts are… bar tricks for attraction, card tricks to transition into rapport, and from there on in no-props tricks only. Control, for instance, includes prolonged touch, and if she isn’t emotionally affected by it, she has no soul.

If you do magic in order to seduce girls…knowing some card tricks is a “must” because it offers you a lot of opportunities to touch the girl, to whisper into her ear, to make her picking a card from your trousers pocket (be sure you don’t have a hole inside your pocket. LOL ) and much more. Sometimes, you can just use one torn card with a paperclip (and a duplicate card to switch it) by pretending that a friend tore it and challenged you that you can’t restore it despite the fact you can do magic.The more important is to know where and how to use a deck of card to trigger the lady’s curiosity and attract her.

I must say I use a LOT of card magic to pick up girls… the trick is to make it seem that you don’t have the cards with you but that you “find ” them at the bar.. or pull them out somewhere.. I know the barman at my usual place and he keeps a deck under the counter for me.. so as it’s not too obvious
But thats just me
